I thinkthis article pretty much speaks for itself, but I’m going to summarize it anyway as a way to wrap my head around it.
It seems the “Reverend” Fred Phelps (if you don’t knowwho he is, you’re missing out on the best free ride on the crazy train ever, though I hastily advise you not to click that link in public)… anyway, Fred wants to put a monument in a public park commemorating the day Matthew Shepard “entered Hell.” The park is right across from where his funeral was, because just erecting the monument wasn’t classy enough by itself.
So of course Casper, Wyoming wants to stop all this, but they can’t, because the same park has a monument to the Ten Commandments in it. If they get rid of one, they have to get rid of both. Right now, someone at the Alabama ACLU is shouting, “See? See?!”
