It was announced today that both baseball and softball will be dropped from the 2012 Olympics. Among the reasons cited by the committee: the American softball team completely dominates the other countries, and American professional baseball players never participate (thus causing the American team to completely dominate the other countries). For some reason this reminds me of the antidepressant commercial that warns “side effects may include diarrhea and constipation.”

The committee also decided that softball should be dropped because it was not popular enough worldwide.

Globally Unpopular: softball
Wild International Crazes: curling, synchronized swimming, boat rowing

While not literally and entirely the reason I don’t care, I felt that encapsulated it pretty succinctly.
