I had that idea in the car and couldn’t stop laughing; the results of that search were never in doubt. I’m not saying they’re bad or whatever, but I heard their latest song on the radio and thought, “People probably like this song, and their various party band covers, but is anybody out there really going, ‘WOOOO! Smash Mouth, I can’t get enough of you, baby’?”
Though now that I think about it, they are almost alarmingly long-lived as a band. Their first single was adequately entertaining me back in college.

But look at what happens when you google “Smash (space) Mouth is my favorite band”
http://www.smashmouth.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php?t65.html
At first glance it appears to be some fan fiction having to do with Smash Mouth fans meeting (or possibly being) the Legend of Zelda. It also pops up when you Google “total losers + too much free time + drugs + the most random, surreal thing ever”

I did find “Smash Mouth is my favorite band”, but only one.
Because I’m a geek, I plugged in various other names:
“Beatles are my favorite band”: 265 results
Rolling Stones: 20 (!)
Radiohead: 258 (!!!)
U2: 230
Guns’n'Roses: 65
The Kinks: 9
But the band that gets the most results of the ones I’ve tried so far?
AC/DC: THREE HUNDRED FIFTY.

Oh–that last comment was from me. Wasn’t trying to be mysterious, sorry.
