Nine years ago (!!!) my friends and I went to see the X-Files movie on opening night. As is the case a good 75% of the time, I can remember where I saw the movie, who I was with, and what my life was like that night, but I have no memory of what happened in the X-Files movie or what it was about.

With that in mind, when I saw the flick pop up on the cable menu last week I decided to Tivo it despite the fact that it was obviously not one of my favorites. It’s on right in front of me as I type these words, and as I watch it I have only two questions: What happens in the X-Files movie? What is it about?

Cavemen oil IEDs! Mulder cornfield angry bees! Rock and roll the cola wars, I can’t take it anymore!

Oh, how I yearn for the halycon days of needles on the shore…

I sometimes still think of the biggest news stories right before 9-11. The news was making a really big deal about all of these sharks hanging off of the FL coast. The Today show even went down there and interviewed people who were unknowingly swimming with all those sharks around.

It’s funny you say that; the X-Files movie is very interesting to watch in 2007, because it begins with someone using a large IED to blow up a federal building and ends with a conspiracy to take over the government with the shadowy agency known as FEMA. As I watched the plot unfold, I thought, “How nice it was to see this movie in 1998 and not know what ‘IED’ stood for, or exactly what FEMA did.”
